Nguyễn Tấn Cương
Nguyễn Tấn Cương (b. 1953, Hanoi, Vietnam. Lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City)
Growing up in the Southern art scene and starting to interact with the easel at the age of twelve, Nguyễn Tấn Cương graduated from the National School of Saigon College of Fine Arts in 1973, two years before the Fall of Saigon (1975).
Initially practicing abstraction in the 1980s, but when participating in the annual exhibition "Recent Works" with a Group of 10 from 1991-1996, Cương really devoted himself to the movement. His work often contains an immense space with vibrant, bold and contrasting colors. He focused on expressing his mood through movement, complex layers interwoven on the canvas.
After more than 30 years of diligently researching and creating, he has made his name in countless national and international exhibitions. As of now, Nguyễn Tấn Cương has become an important figure of Abstraction in Southern Vietnam, alongside with his peers such as Nguyễn Trung, Ca Lê Thắng, Đỗ Hoàng Tường and Trần Văn Thảo, etc.
His work belongs to the collections of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, the City Museum of Fine Arts, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang Fine Arts Museum, Biblioteca Archivio (Italy), H&S Collection (Belgium), Post Vidai Collection (Switzerland - Vietnam), Town of Olds' public sculpture collection (Canada) and private collections around the world.
